ABSTRACT
Based on the observation result in SLB-AC Dharma Wanita Sidoarjo, the second class students had difficulty in speech especially telling story ability. One of the ways to enhance telling story ability used doll stage media. This research was done with the purpose to analyze whether there was influence of using doll stage media toward telling story ability of mentally retardation children in the second class of SLB-AC Dharma Wanita Sidoarjo. The approach used in this research was quantitative approach. The research kind was pre experiment. The design used: The one group pre test and post test. The method used to collect the data was test method. For the research data analysis the researcher used analysis technique of statistic non parametric. The research result after giving pre test the average value of the children was 44,4 and then they were given intervention 6 times meeting with time allocation ± 60 minutes for each meeting. Then giving post test it was indicated that the value changed to be better with the average value 77,7. From the value above, it was then analyzed by sign test formula (ZH) with Z table 5% two sides testing 1,96. The Z value obtained from counting was ZH = 2,74 so that it could be concluded that “there was significant influence of using doll stage media toward telling story ability of mild mentally retardation children in the second class of SLB-AC Dharma Wanita Sidoarjo”, with the value: ZH = 2,74 > Z table 5% 1,96.
