Abstract



ABSTRACT
Autism children were those who had very complex problem which could disturb the children development, one of them was social communication ability. Social communication ability was important and the children had to get it to develop communication ability with surroundings. Developing social communication could be done by grouping method which could stimulate the children to have communicating initiative and feedback in communicating. One of the methods applying group was role play method. Role play method was the method which was done in group with the scenario inside acted by each child involved. This play role method was done by hand doll which had different attractive characters and requested the children to do conversation in playing role. The purpose of this research was to gain the answer about the application of play role method with hand doll media toward social communication ability of autism children in TK Mentari School Sidoarjo. This research was done by involving 6 autism students who had been capable in speech and good contact eye. The research used was quantitative with pre experiment non parametric kind using one group pre test and post test design and it was done 12 times intervention, 1 time pre test and 1 time post test. The research result indicated that the assessment of pre test and post test social communication showed that the result was same i.e. 616 and 616 there was not any change. The analysis result of pre test and post test value used sign test formula (Zh) with Z table 5% two sides test 1,96, the value obtained was Zh = - 2,69 so that Zh < Zt. In this way, it could be concluded that there was not any significant influence of play role method with hand doll media toward social communication ability of autism children in TK Mentari School Sidoarjo.
