Abstract


Abstract; Learning Indonesian in schools has four aspects of skills which include listening
skills, speaking, reading, and writing. All four language skills that must be mastered by the
students so that students are able to express their thoughts, express their feelings, express
their ideas, and be able to interact in society. One such language skills are no less important is
the writing skills must also be controlled by the child's mental retardation. As we know that
children in the intelligence impaired mental retardation, mental retardation as a result
children have difficulty writing. The purpose of this study to describe the effect of
Scaffolding models by writing a description of the essay writing skills of mental retardation
in children. Writing skills expected at the child's mental retardation mental retardation is a
child capable of expressing an idea or ideas in written form that are useful in everyday life.
The results showed that the sign of the formula test (sign test) Zh outcome data obtained were
