ACTIVITY AND CREATIVITY OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN LEARNING WITH CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING (CPS) APPROACH ON CUBE AND CUBOID’S MATTER

Abstract


Students’ creativity in solving problems is important aspect of mathematics learning activities in school. Creativity is defined as a product of creative thinking ability to produce various ways of solving and answers from given problems in learning. In learning with Creative Problem Solving (CPS) approach have probability to show students’ creative activities. Creative activities are all kinds of students’ activities along learning process which were observed in group discussion to support students to solve problems with evoke/explore the opinions/ideas from their-self.


 This research is included into qualitative research which was aim to describe students’ creative activities and creativity in learning use CPS approach on cube and cuboid’s matter. The subject of this study consisted of students in VIII-C SMPN 1 Pandaan–Pasuruan to see their creativity and a group consisted of 5 students to see their creative activities. The data were analyzed based on the criteria of creativity which consist of fluency, flexibility, and novelty, and creative activities which were showed along learning process with CPS approach. The creative activities that observed are students asking questions, students find/create ideas, students develop other students’ ideas, students modify/change from given answers to produce new and difference things, students create different model/product form example that given by others, students consider ideas and information with open minded, students connect everything freely, and students apply their imagination/representation.


Based on the result of the study, the creative activities which were showed along learning process with CPS approach are asking questions, finding/creating ideas, developing other student’s ideas, modifying/changing given answers to produce new and difference things, creating different model/product form given examples that given by others, considering ideas and information with open minded, connecting everything freely, and applying their imagination/representation. Based on classification, we can conclude the students in VIII-C SMPN 1 Pandaan–Pasuruan have various creativity, so there are 6 students classified on creative, 26 students classified on enough creative, and 7 students classified on not creative.
