Abstract

Representation is a form of interpretation of students thinking on a problem, therefore mathematical representation is an important aspect in learning and building understanding of mathematical concepts. In mathematics between one concept and another there is a relationship in terms of content and formulas, in which case the ability to connect or mathematical connection ability becomes an important aspect that must be mastered by the students. This research method is descriptive qualitative. Data were collected using representative tests and interviews. Representation tests are used to obtain subjects about students mathematical representation while interviews are used to obtain in-depth information from the answers that have been written by each research subject. The result of the research shows that the students mathematical representation in establishing the wide relation of parallelogram with the rectangle is the visual representation in the form of the drawing, the students make a drawing in the form of geometry building as an illustration of mathematical condition or information, on symbol representation, the students use the formula of rectangle and parallelogram by involving mathematical expression, on verbal representation (written text), students give an explanation of the broad relationship of parallelogram with rectangle. The mathematical representation of the students in building the wide relation of the parallelogram with the square is visual representation, symbol representation and verbal representation (written text). The mathematical representation of the students in establishing the broad relationship of parallelogram with the diamond is the visual representation in the form of the drawing, the students create a drawing of the form of geometry build up as an illustration of the state or mathematical information, on symbol representation, the students use the formula of diamond and parallelogram by involving mathematical expression, at verbal representation (written text), the student gives an explanation of the broad relationship of the parallelogram with the diamond.
