Abstrak


Keterampilan berbicara adalah salah satu hal yang harus dipelajari dan dikuasai oleh siswa sebagai pembelajar bahasa kedua. Faktanya, banyak siswa takut berbicara bahasa Inggris dalam proses belajar mengajar. Oleh karena itu, guru membutuhkan berbagai media untuk membantu mereka dalam mengajar berbicara. Salah satu media yang dapat digunakan oleh guru adalah permainan ular tangga. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) bagaimana guru menggunakan permainan ular tangga sebagai media untuk mengajar berbicara deskriptif teks dan (2) bagaimana respon siswa terhadap penggunaan media permainan ular tangga dalam pembelajaran berbicara teks deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah salah satu guru bahasa Inggris di SMK Muhammadiyah 01 Gresik dan siswa kelas X AKT. Sebagai tambahan, penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dan data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari hasil observasi, catatan lapangan, dan dari hasil angket. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa permainan ular tangga sangat mudah untuk digunakan dalam mengajar berbicara teks deskriptif. Permainan ular tangga dapat membantu guru untuk menarik perhatian dan meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa serta dapat menarik minat dan memotivasi siswa dalam berbicara teks deskriptif.

Abstract


Speaking is one of the skills that should be learned and mastered by the second language learners. In fact, there are a lot of students are afraid in speaking English in teaching and learning process. Therefore, the teachers need some media to help them to teach speaking. One of media that can be used by the teacher is snakes and ladders game. This study was conducted in order to find out how (1) the teacher uses snakes and ladders game as a medium to teach speaking descriptive text and (2) how the students’ responses toward the use of snakes and ladders game as a medium to teach speaking descriptive text. The subjects of this study were one of the English teachers in SMK Muhammadiyah 01 Gresik and the students of X AKT class. In addition, this study was a qualitative study and the data were collected from the result of observation checklist, field note, and from the result of questionnaire. The result of this study showed that snakes and ladders game was easy to be applied in teaching speaking descriptive text. Snakes and ladders game could help the teacher to get students’ interest and increase students’ speaking ability and could attract students’ attention and motivate the students in speaking descriptive text in front of the class.
