Abstrak


Guru mendominasi di kelas merupakan sesuatu yang sudah umum terjadi in Indonesia. Dalampelaksanaan proses pembelajaran, guru sering kalimendominasi pembicaraan. Hal yang perlu diprhatikan adalah gayaberbicara yang guru gunakan saat didalam kelas. Mengingat guru mendominasi pembicaraandidalam kelas, gaya bicara guru sudahseharusnyabaik. Olehsebabitu, penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bagaiamana gaya berbicara guru dan code-switching guru karena penggunaanbahasaibutidakdapatterpisahkandarikelasbahasaasing. Data akandianalisisberdasarkan lima komponen gaya berbicara oleh Brwon (2004) danakan di nilaiberdasarkantabelOller (1979). Penelitianinitermasukcase study mengingat penelitian ini hanya berfokuspadasatusubjeksajayaitu guru.Subject dari penelitian ini merupakan salah satu guru bahasa Inggris yang ada di SMAN 5 Surabaya.Lalu data diperoleh dari kelas jurusan IPA.Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan catatan lapangan dan table Oller. Penggunaan rekaman suara adalah untuk mendukung proses pengambilan data. Setelah melakukan observasi sebanyak dua kali, hasil yang diperolehadalahgayaberbicara guru yang baik. Hal tersbutditunjukkanolehtabelOller, berdasarkanpenilaiangayaberbicara guru mendapatkannilai 79. Jikanilaitersebutdimasukkankedalam FSI (Foreign Service Institute), gayabericara guru terdapat di level 3+. Lalu berdasarkan analisis lima komponen gaya bahaya oleh Brown (2004), guru melakukan kesalahan di komponen tata bahasa, pengucapan, dan kelancaran. Sedang kan untuk perbendaharaan kata dan penguasaan, guru sangat menguasainya karena dari hasil percakapan siswa dapat mengerti dengan semua ucapan guru. Lalu ada 30 ucapan yang mengandung code-switching. Jumlah tersebut merupakan jumlah yang sedikit mengingat jumlahdari keseluruhan ucapan ada 451 ucapan.

Abstract


Teacher’s domination became a common phenomenon in Indonesia.  In conducting teaching and learning process, the teacher dominated over all the classroom talk. The thing that should be paid attention was the teacher’s speaking performance. Since the teachers were talking during the class, their speaking performance of the teacher supposed to be good. Therefore, this study was conducted in order to describe the teacher’s speaking performance and the teacher’s code-switching because the used of mother language could not be separated from EFL classroom. The data would be analyzed based on five component of speaking by Brown (2004) and would be scored by weighting table by Oller (1979). The study belonged to case study since the focus of the study was one subject, the teacher. The subject of the study was an English teacher in SMAN 5 Surabaya. Then the data was took place in class science major. The data was gained by using field note and weighting table. Then audio recording was used to support in getting the data. After doing observation twice and analyzing the data, the result showed that the teacher speaking performance was good. The weighting table showed that the teacher’s score was 79. Then, when it converted to the FSI (Foreign Service Institute), the level was 3+. Meanwhile, from the analysis of five speaking components, the teacher did some errors in grammar, pronunciation, and fluency.  Then for the vocabulary and comprehension, the teacher was good overall since the students understood with the teacher said.  In addition, there were 30 utterances that contained code-switching. It was little amount since there were 451 utterances that were produced during teaching and learning process.
